This week during my Bible reading I read 2 Corinthians, and I was greatly encouraged to see that Paul used twice in this epistle the phrase, "we do not lose heart".
"But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart."
2 Corinthians 3: 16- 4:1 ESV
In this first instance, we are reminded that we do not lose heart because it has pleased the Lord to set us free and to remove the veil from our eyes so that we see his glory. We do not lose heart because we know we are being transformed into the same image of Jesus. We do not lose heart because we know that our God is a merciful God.
In that, my friends, I find great delight!
The second time Paul uses this phrase is here:
"Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, “I believed, and so I spoke,” we also believe, and so we also speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence. For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.Here we are reminded that we do not lose heart because we have an unshakable hope: we know that we will be resurrected and will be with Jesus in Heaven. We do not lose heart because we are grounded in the Word and live with our eyes fixed on the eternal things.
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal."
2 Corinthians 4: 13-18 ESV
This is a truth that makes my heart sing.
